UoC Annual Research Symposium 2021: Nov. 23 to Dec. 28

The Annual Research Symposium of the University of Colombo will be held at the university premises from November 23 to December 28.

The main objective of the Annual Research Symposium is to promote academic research conducted in different disciplines, and to disseminate research findings to the public.

The inauguration ceremony will be held on November 23 at 8.30 am at the New Arts Theatre of the University of Colombo under the leadership of University of Colombo Vice Chancellor Chandrika N. Wijeyaratne. The special invitee of the inauguration ceremony is the Foreign Affairs Minister G. L. Peiris, who was a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo.

Indian High Commissioner Gopal Baglay will grace the ceremony as the chief guest. The keynote speech will be delivered by Prof. Mohan Munasinghe, Chairman of the Presidential Expert Commission on Sustainable Sri Lanka 2030, and former Vice- Chair of the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The central theme of this year’s Research Symposium is ‘ Impactful Research through an Interdisciplinary Approach.’ This year’s Research Symposium is conducted in concurrence with the centenary celebration of humanities and science education in Sri Lankan academia.

An official from the University said a significant feature of this year’s symposium is that 42 distinguished intellectuals who have made tremendous contribution to the University of Colombo will be honoured at the ceremony.

More than 300 research papers will be presented on a range of subjects.
