SLTC launches the renowned Civil Engineering Degree Programme from RMIT Australia

The Sri Lanka Technological Campus ( SLTC) has had a history of forming partnerships with top ranked universities in the world providing local students a global educational platform.

Amongst such partnerships is that with RMIT University Australia, which gives students in Sri Lanka the opportunity to study for its globally renowned BSc ( Hons) degree in Civil Engineering degree. As a fully accredited course, it will offer students a golden opportunity to work towards a qualification that is globally recognised and highly regarded by the industry, giving them an opportunity to launch their careers both locally and globally.

Being among the top 100 universities in the world for civil engineering, RMIT University Australia are renowned for their focus on industry based, practical learning.

This standard is passionately enforced across their courses through the university’s strong relationships with industry professionals and industry leaders. These connections ensure that RMIT’s courses and teaching facilities are relevant to contemporary and future workplaces, by keeping them up- to- date with engineering trends, new and developing technologies and best practices.

RMIT’s commitment to this philosophy ensures that their graduates are employable and real-world ready as soon as their studies have been completed.

The degree programme is structured as 3 key sections across a 4-year period. The first year of the degree introduces key graduate capabilities in sustainability, problem solving, engineering analysis, teamwork, leadership and communications.

Students will also be trained to augment their mathematical skills to cover a number of basic concepts around engineering applications.

The 2nd year of the programme will introduce students to broader theoretical concepts surrounding the practical aspects of engineering; site investigations, to geotechnical considerations, to water and transport engineering, to mathematical modelling and much more.

The final section of the degree programme will be done across 2 years and will present students with the opportunity to diversify their knowledge and specialise in a number of different areas within civil engineering.

Some salient areas of specialisation include; Construction and Project Management for Civil Infrastructure Projects, Geotechnical Engineering for Ground Improvement and Irrigation, Structural Engineering for Complex Facilities and Large buildings, and Transport

Engineering for Roads, Airports, Harbours and Canals.

Overall , the degree promises to be a well- balanced education that blends theory and practice, affording students the opportunity to obtain hands-on experience with real-life projects. Throughout the course, students will also be encouraged to conduct research activities to expand their understanding

The first 2 years of this course will be conducted in Sri Lanka by SLTC, after which students are given the opportunity to transfer to RMIT Australia for the completion of their education.

A fully fledged subsidiary of Sri Lanka Telecom, SLTC is a first of its kind non- state, corporate powered, and research based residential campus with state-of-the-art facilities.

They specialise in electronics telecommunications and computing and have a number of research, teaching and student exchange partnerships with international institutions such as Lancaster University, Trinity College Dublin and Texas Tech University.

Through the advent of the Civil Engineering BSc ( Hons) Program from RMIT Australia, SLTC has provided the students of Sri Lanka with even more opportunities to learn, grow and succeed in the field of Engineering.
