Yevan David in Top 5 at European Karting Championship

Yevan Ranasinghe David, the 13-year-old Karting champion from Sri Lankam, continued his impressive performance following the successes he has had in Belgium and Germany. The FIA European Karting Championship Round 3, which was held this week in the South of Italy, attracted over 100 participants drawn from the best the world over. Yevan secured pole position in his group and third overall in qualifying and thereby being the first Sri Lankan to achieve this feat.

In line with the above, he started his campaign in exceptional style, winning the race opener with guile and raw pace. He then went onto record two

Top 3 finishes and three Top 5 finishes. Despite having a difficult grid position in the final race, Yevan made early moves to slot himself into the fourth position and looked ominous to secure a podium position.

Unfortunately, in view of a few mid field overtaking maneuvers by few other drivers, he was pushed back to the ninth position, but made a remarkable recovery to reach the Top 5 at the chequered flag. This was behind last year’s world champion Freddy Slater and Keeble both from the United Kingdon.

Yevan now goes to Zuera in Spain for the second round of the championship of the future trophy and the final round of the European Championship, back in Italy.

Despite this being his first year of participation in the European Championship within a short pace of time, he continues to catch the attention of the senior motorsport body, the FIA, and motor sport in general.

He has created history by being the first Sri Lankan to hoist the nations flag on the

world stage.
