Nestle MD tells APIIT MBA’s ‘Find your Purpose’

The strongest Industry linked MBA in Sri Lanka - The Staffordshire University presented by Asia Pacific Institute of Technology( APIIT) Sri Lanka, had the privilege of hosting the Managing Director or Nestle Lanka PLC Fabrice Cavallin at the Meet the CEO mid week meeting recently.

Mr. Cavallin, a top professional from the global food giant Nestle was the Executive Vice President Nutrition for South Asia based out of New Delhi prior to taking over the Sri Lanka business whilst he was also the Country Business Manager for Infant Nutrition for the Spain & Iberia, Business Controller Nutrition for Europe and former business head for Nestle Eater in Mexico. He addressed the MBA graduates on the importance of Purpose in today’s environment we have to operate in.

The interviewer being Marketing professional Dr Rohantha Athukorala questioned why this subject was selected to be discussed when there were many other more pressing topics that could have been addressed. The point highlighted by the speaker was that if we don’t understand “our purpose” we tend feel isolated and especially given the COVID-19 pandemic many having to work in bubble environment this psychological feeling can increase can be tough to handle he said.

Mr. Cavallin went on to mention that If this key discipline was discovered by each of us we will be highly motivated, we will not have a issue of working in isolation in our own office room in our homes or remotely in a location that has few people. Many seem to believe that purpose arises from your special gifts and sets you apart from other people—but that’s only part of the truth. It also grows from our connection to others, which is why a crisis of purpose is often a symptom of isolation. Once you find your path, you’ll almost certainly find others traveling along with you said Cavallin.

Dr Athukorala probing on how one can discover ones ‘purpose’, the senior veteran from Nestle discussed some important techniques that stimulated discussion among the top class business professions from the MBA batch of 2021.

The 1st technique shared was ‘ Reading’. The speaker highlighted that reading connects us to people we’ll never know, across time and space—an experience that research says is linked to a sense of meaning and purpose. Meaning that Purpose gets us to understand traits like value, efficacy, and self-worth which helps fashion our ‘ why are we in this world and what is our role to humanity’ which was an interesting dimension that books don’t teach.

Mr Cavallin in summary voiced “if you’re feeling a crisis of purpose in your life, go to the bookstore or library or university. Find books that matter to you— and they might help you to see what matters in your own life.

APIIT is the respected campus for top end MBA education and recently launched the Doctorate in Business Administration( DBA) from the global university of the world AIT whilst the LLM- Masters in Law is the market leader Sri Lanka.
