Increase in new uni.student numbers since last year

A total of 43,000 students will be enrolled in state universities, showing an increase in the numbers over the past year, University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Sampath Amaratunge said.

He said the students will be selected from around 100,000 applications which have been received.

Prof.Amaratunge said students who have already applied have also been given an option of reselecting their university of choice. Further extensions will not been granted.

Prof.Amaratunge said they were expecting some 75,000 applications, but they have received more than 100,000 applications.
