Gamini Fernando no more

Former Trinity College, Havelock SC, national rugby player, former national coach and selector, former President of the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU) and the Sri Lanka Referees Society, Gamini Fernando passed away yesterday after a brief illness.
Fernando was a top-class player, coach, referee and rugby administrator, rugby lover and promoter. He played for Trinity College in 1958 under
Ken de Joodt and 1959 under Denzil Kobbekaduwa.
He was also a fine cricketer as well, representing the Trinity outfit in 1960.
In 1961, he turned out for Havelock, which he led in 1967 while going to coach the national rugby team in 1978.
