Sri Lanka to compete in Asian Youth Para Games

The Sri Lanka Youth Para Team will leave for Bahrain today to participate in the Fourth Asian Youth Para Games, which will be held from December 2 to 6 in Manama.

Sri Lanka will compete in track and field events and swimming events at this meet, where over 800 para athletes from 32 countries are set to participate.

Chairman of the National Paralympics Committee of Sri Lanka (NPCSL) Colonel Deepal Herath said that Sri Lanka will field six athletes (five men and one woman) and two swimmers (one male and one female) in addition to a six-member delegation of coaches and officials.

In the history of the Youth Para Games, Sri Lanka have won six medals including three Gold Medals and three Silver Medals.

Janani Wickramasinghe (100m, 200m, long jump – junior women’s T46), Mahamadu Safran (long jump – youth men’s T46), Isuru Hasanka (100m,

200m, long jump – men’s T47), Raja Jayawardene (100m, discus throw, shotput – youth TF 40), Ravindu Chiranjaya (100m, 200m, 400m – men’s T11), Pansilu Pasan (100m, 200m, 400m men’s T11 guide runner), Naveed Rahim (swimming 50m, 100m freestyle – men’s S10), Carmel Basnayake (50m, 100m, 400m freestyle – women’s S10).

Officials: Julian Bolling (swimming), Nalinda Senarath (athletics), Dumeera Maduranga (Ministry of Education Representative), Dr. Ravi Basnayake (Covid 19 Coordinating Officer), Lasantha Sriyakanthi (Lady Chaperon) and Priyantha Peiris (Team Manager).
