TWO MORE FUNGAL DISEASES PREVALENT AMONG COVID-HIT PEOPLE

Life-threatening unless diagnosed early A few patients with black fungus were detected among people infected by SARS.COV.2.

In addition to the cases of Black Fungus or mucormycosis, there are two more fungal diseases namely -Aspergillosis and Candidiasis - found among people who are infected with Covid- 19, a Medical Expert said. A few patients with black fungus were detected among people infected by SARS.COV.2.

Consultant Medical Mycologist from Medical Research Institute, Colombo- Dr. Primali Jayasekera told Daily Mirror that health authorities had observed two other fungal diseases among people who are infected with Covid-19. This phenomenon had also been observed in other countries.

“Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis can affect the lungs and can cause pneumonia. Candida blood stream infections can cause generalised sepsis and can cause multi organ damage,” she said.

She also said that these diseases could be life -threatening unless diagnosed and treated properly.
